I am looking at flying over from England for this festival as it looks fantastic! Do you have many people attend from abroad? Also would you suggest the VIP tickets, I have heard it is all inclusive of drinks?? Any advice is good advice for me

I haven't seen many international fest goers but I haven't actually looked for any either I don't do VIP. I enjoy walking around in the sand with the crowd and such. Sparkysarah will tell you it's the best thing going. It's really a matter of preference.

Sparkysarah will tell you it's the best thing going. It really is the best thing going! :-P If you're young and can take 11 hours of GA, be my guest. I'm an old fart. I don't want to worry about keeping up with beer/food money, finding shade, finding a suitable potty, etc. As far as international folks, I have met a few international performers in the VIP Grove. I can't recall meeting VIP ticketholders.

I'm an old fart too compared to the Hangout demo. Guess I'm young at festival heart though. And I can deal with most any public facilities, lol. I was talking to a friend the other day who said he is too old for camping fests. I'm was like "how can you be too old for a camping fest? I don't understand".

After years of Boy Scout mastering, sleeping on rocks, blisters, etc...I have discovered an early retirement and enjoy beachside, king size, kitchen, my own bathroom and a short walk to fantasia. Wonderful thing about Hangout is you can have it your way. Fun everywhere. I go down Tuesday before and leave Tuesday after the show. There are other fun things to do. Ride a bike or hike through the State Park, go dancing at Florabama Lounge, rent a boat, or just do nothing. All good.
Almost forgot...I have had food poison twice while visiting the Gulf. I would suggest sticking with cooked; steamed, fried, grilled, etc., food. Avoid anything that looks like mayonnaise or anything that has mayo-milk-eggs in it. The nearest emergency room is in Foley and that is a long ride on a bad stomach...trust me...been there and got the IV to prove it.

Oh yes, Hangout is far and away my favorite fest due to the beach, condos, etc. but I still love to camp at my "hippie" fests when I am able. Did the hotel route for Peach Fest last year and it was amazing but missed out on a lot of the late night partying/shenanigans/campground shows that come with a camping fest.

I might have been too old for camping fests before I was old enough to drink. Sooooo over that. But, different strokes for different folks!

I really am not scared of roughing it with the GA - I just cannot look past free drink and food for 3 full days for 1000 dollars (£750) - Im not sure how much they charge for drink there but at UK festivals you are looking £5($8) a beer.

I'm pretty sure that's how much they charge for beer at Hangout too. I went GA for my first trip in 2011. I spent $200 on a wristband, I believe $25 on a Thursday night preparty ticket, and over $500 in food and drink. And I still had to deal with no shade and questionable port-a-potties. I've gone VIP ever since.

So I know they offer re-entry. I heard there's restaurants inside, but is there anywhere close by (short walking distance) outside that offers cheaper food/alcoholic beverages? (I expect any drinks/food inside will be overpriced)

(I expect any drinks/food inside will be overpriced) Yes. Shrimp Basket is close by on 59 and they have good poboys, shrimp, burgers and beer. Steamers is right behind Shrimp Basket and they have mixed drinks, beer, all sorts of seafood, burgers. There are a couple pizza joints. I believe a lot of folks go to Reds. Remember there are 40,000 people in the neighborhood. I like the Hangout Restaurant. If you go between 11 am and 2 pm you can get a table. I have had really good service. Best restrooms around. After that, the crowds are huge and you will probably want to hit one of the food trucks. Oh...the Alabama Seafood food court is really good for the price. It is beside the BMI stage I believe. Hope that helps.

I would be okay with this. I'd love to have a place to put my towel and stuff when I'm not at the VIP pool. Usually, my date ends up being the pack mule. Sarah....picked this handy tips place to respond to all those recommendations you made. The folks at Hangout I e-mail with actually respond! They said they understand and are sending them up to the higher ups for review. Maybe you will get your sand and sherbert. God...I love orange sherbert!

Lime sherbert is the second best thing ever. Thanks for emailing the Hangout folks! I really do hope they bring in the sand and fix the Chevy stage sound for GA. I'll buy my own damn sherbert if they fix those things.
