I guess it is different strokes for different folks. Half the bands you bring up, meh. In year one, Zac Brown was a big Friday night crowd favorite with the New Orleans Jazz Band. Really enjoyed Allison Krauss. For me, John Legend and TAB were snoozers. The last couple years, the Foo Fighters and RHCP were great and appealed to a lot of people with a depth of popular hits. Tom Petty, Paul Simon and DMB are going to bring a boat load of fans and their hits go on and on. Jack White was just crazy amazing.
Now, we have a pretty mixed up line-up. There are no top tier jam bands (WSP, ABB, Phish), no big name 70's band and given the hip-hop Outkast with every other words starting with N or F is definitely not in the same group as Tom, DMB and Paul. Amos and Jack will be nice late afternoon, sunset by the beach acts, but again, closers? Last year when Stevie Wonder started crying about guns and his mother and how redneck Alabama was, there was a mass exodus of Sunday night folks.
I am curious as heck to see the lineup and it might work. Black Keys have been ok, Outkast sounds like fun, and Jack Johnson may wind up a closer on Sunday, but this will probably be a step down 5th anniversary show vice what I though was hoping could be i.e. someone new like Bruno Mars on Friday night, a big name jam band like Phish on Saturday, and 70s smooth retro act like ABB on Sunday as closers.
Again, it is hard to please everyone. For me, 3 out of the five lineups have been awesome. Who knows, we may all walk away calling this the best Hangout ever.

Was there really a mass exodus during Stevie? I was about half way back on the right side and didn't notice anyone leaving. Everyone was dancing and singing along and it was one of the bets shows of the fest for me. Yeah, the banter was kind of annoying but it was hit after hit and a great way to close out the fest for me.
I think that is my issue with the headliners this year. There is no real "sing along" type band. I know the Killers hits and the Keys hits but its not a big sign along type vibe. Outkast is one of the most fun live shows I have ever been to. That was 13 years ago but I know I'll be moving for that one.
A Bruno/Phish/ABB headliner would have been a lot more in line with my tastes though.

A lot of folks moved to the front and a lot left my area which was on the left side facing the stage about where the mixing boards are located. It went from crowded to the point I could see the left beer stand from 30 yards away. Agree there was still a jam of people to the front, right and back. I found a couple ladies dancing and we enjoyed the extra space. Agree that having a late night closer you can sing a long with and that has some sort of dance beat is awesome. Foo Fighters, RHCP, KOL, Tom Petty, Paul Simon, Stevie, DMB, Zac Brown, and Black Crowes all kind of fit that bill for me. I have listened to a lot of Black Keys, Outkast, and Killers since announced and they have beat...just a handful of songs you might sing along with/know.
Having said that, I would really go for Amos Lee and Jack Johnson doing there most popular songs and being Sunday night tag team closers on the main stage. That would be a nice mellow beach groove and I think both of them are headed for Grammy status soon. If you have not listened to Moon Taxi's acoustic EP, highly recommend it.
I have no doubt that the Outkast show with maybe Trombone Shorty as a lead in will be worth nearly the price of a three day admission given the beach, etc. Hey Ya!!!

You should really listen to Outkast...and not the latest double album. They are not what you think they are, from the sounds of your text. Also, Los Lobos is a big name 70's band, and also a jam band. You should check them out. You'd probably like em.
