Since Outkast is apparently confirmed, my hopes for Headliners will be Prince, Outkast, & Foo Fighters. Pretty Lights, Bassnectar, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Smashing Pumpkins or Muse are other good picks of mine. (:

Is Outkast 100% verified/confirmed? This would be EPIC!

Has anyone thought about Elton John? He's rumored to be at Roo this year and has dates off during Hangout. I was thinking he may be the "old school" act that they've had every year. Last years old school act was Petty who crossed over to Roo. So maybe? Just a thought.
If I had to guess, I'd say definitely Outkast | Jack Johnson | Elton John as headliners

I can see all the names as closers right now, Outkast, JJ, The Killers, and Black Keys. To me Jack Johnson, the Black Keys, and Outkast would be better openers at sunset to get the vibe going as they all have that awesome lets get the night pumping vibe.
That would leave maybe two of the above to close, are we going to have another headliner added? Two?
I for one would rather see 2 more big headliners added than 15 other bands. Something like 2 headliners and 5 small/mid.
I was thinking Incubus, NIN, or a Radiohead on Fri/Sat night and a massive closer for the 5th anniversary on Sun like
U2, Bruce Springsteen, or an awesome Metallica S&M with full blown orchestra & fireworks.
I was also hoping to see some more 90's bands, like Live, Collective soul, REM, Bush, No Doubt, Counting Crows, Hootie and the blowfish... just something to break up the very acoustic modern alt vibe. I actually think it would enhance the modern alt vibe to mix it up.

I would have liked to see something a little out there, the Outkast add is nice for that and I think compliments JJ well.
But I would also seriously look at bands like Green Day, Linkin Park, STP, Pearl Jam, and think how bad ass rage against the machine would be on friday night paired with somebody like NIN for a paired 4 hour long friday opener.
I just wish they would think outside the box is all. Its all about who has been hot over the last 3 years with a majority of the bands over the last year.
A couple years ago Jack White did RHCP justice and the close with Dave was nice. I just didn't have that vibe last year, it was much more mellow. It seems that way this year as well with JJ; though see him at sunset in gulf shores would be pretty bad ass.

You're thinking big, and I like that.
But we're pretty much having to work with what we got now. Hangout's already got 4 headliner-worthy acts right now. The Black Keys are one of the biggest rock bands in the world right now. The Killers sell millions of copies of albums when they come out and it's their only date of 2014 (so far). Outkast is the hip-hop/rap reunion everyone's been waiting for (and they are, well, bringing it to EVERYONE). Jack Johnson..... okay, I don't know why he's so big but he is somehow.
Now, I'm not saying that it's out of the realm of possibility that Hangout pulls what would be a major press and attention getter and books another headliner. I've mentioned on our sister thread on Inforoo that I couldn't help but have a feeling that there is something big coming. Whether that is another headliner or not, that remains to be seen (or if that will even happen).
Now, let's play hypotheticals and say Hangout has another headliner. The Black Keys and The Killers are safe; they are closing the fest on the respective nights they play (I would think).
That would mean Outkast (who is closing the main stage at Coachella), Jack Johnson (a top 3 act at most any other mid-major fest) and one other band (most likely The Flaming Lips, given their personal connection to the fest), would by closing the Chevy Stage.
The names you mentioned I would think would be maybe too much. U2, no way, Bruce Springsteen is playing Jazz Fest so he's out, and while the Metallica S&M would blow people's freakin' minds and be the most awesome thing since ever, is....unlikely, even just Metallica is unlikely.
Incubus I don't think is big enough to headline. They usually headline very small, regional fests if they do.\, plus Brandon Boyd is working with a new band right now, called Sons of the Sea (sounds like a Hangout act, eh?). NIN is going to be in Europe at this time, unfortunately. Radiohead isn't touring.
I see the bands in your 2nd post, and those are more likely. Green Day, I'm not sure if they are touring but they are definitely a headliner if they play a fest. Linkin Park doesn't fit Hangout at all to me. STP.... if they had Scott Weiland I would be there every day of the week but even then they are a lot like Incubus these days, even before he left and was replaced with Chester Bennigton.
Pearl Jam. This would rule, and I could totally see this actually coming true.
I also think a band like Soundgarden would work really well, or inviting a former headliner like Foo Fighters or Jack White.

I just don't see the Killers as a headliner. Outkast is an all time top five hip hop group. They are headlining for sure. Black Keys are one of the biggest names in modern rock, so they are also headlining. Pretty lights would pair up perfectly with Outkast. Last year numerous large acts were held from the first announcement, hopefully we get lucky again.

I'm gonna move this over to the Headliner thread. Feel free to keep it going there.

I know a lot of us don't think The Killers are at the top of the headliner food chain, but they headlined Lollapalooza last year and for Hangout to get them for what's looking like one of very few, or only date of 2014 is a big deal.

Zen, I agree 90+%. I was just trying to think outside of the box. 80% of the bands were big within the last two years and are very alternative leaning into indie. I tried to think of the biggest alt/ rock/ heavy rock that breaks that mold. I also have to disagree with the main bands. The hangout is nationally known, its not a small regional concert anymore. I think if you pitched to the large bands like U2 or Metallica with orchestra and pitched it being a 5 year of the BP oil spill and raising awareness for ecology and environmental stewardship you could probably get a better deal. After all there are thousands in the crowd for the Sunday night headliner for the 5th year and while I like the Killers, JJ, Outkast"morefri/sat" and the black keys"really popular but to new to the scene to close Sun". That just the way I see it. I am not saying any of those 4 aren't big headliners, I just don't see them in the Tom Petty, RHCP, Foo Fighters, Dave category headliner So I am hoping they add something like U2, Metallica, Foo, STP, or the like And don't think for a second out of 20 big bands nationally that could close and do justice on Sunday they wouldn't want to for decent $, a 5 year anniversary of a festival, The BP oil spill, etc...
